The Opportunity

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) serves as the medical and scientific expert for Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) products and related therapeutic areas. This field-based role focuses on building scientific engagement and credibility through collaboration with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals, and external stakeholders.

The MSL will support scientific exchange, provide clinical and technical insights, and represent Abbott’s medical expertise in diabetes management.
🗺️ Territory: Midwest Region — Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri.


Key Responsibilities

Scientific & Medical Leadership

  • Serve as the medical/scientific expert for ADC products and therapeutic areas.

  • Provide credible, evidence-based scientific guidance to key healthcare professionals (HCPs) and thought leaders.

  • Support medical and scientific affairs initiatives in collaboration with the US commercial team.

External Engagement & Education

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), academic centers, and professional organizations.

  • Facilitate scientific discussions, educational sessions, and advisory boards to advance understanding of ADC products and diabetes management.

  • Deliver scientific presentations to healthcare providers, focusing on Tier 1 and Tier 2 thought leaders.

  • Participate in national and regional scientific conferences, symposia, and congresses; summarize findings for internal strategy alignment.

Collaboration & Research Support

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to provide scientific input for research and publication initiatives.

  • Respond to unsolicited medical information requests with scientifically accurate data.

  • Support investigator-initiated research, medical education programs, and scientific collaborations.

Compliance & Ethical Practice

  • Ensure all activities comply with local and national regulations, company policies, and industry codes of conduct.

  • Uphold scientific integrity and transparency in all communications and interactions.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a health sciences discipline.

  • Licensure/Board Certification:

    • Clinical licensure (e.g., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, or Pharmacist) as per state/national regulations.

    • Current and relevant board certification in the applicable clinical area.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (e.g., PharmD, MD/DO, NP/DNP, PA, or PhD) in a relevant scientific field.

  • Experience in the diabetes field is highly preferred.

  • Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to interpret clinical data and present complex information clearly.

  • Approximately 75% travel required across the assigned region.

💰 Base Pay Range: $111,300 – $222,700 per year
