Role Summary

The Medical Officer / Senior Medical Officer is responsible for delivering primary and preventive healthcare services through the Medical Mobile Unit (MMU). The role involves patient consultation, diagnosis, treatment, health screening, emergency care, referral management, community health outreach, and health awareness activities in rural, semi-urban, and underserved communities.

The incumbent will play a key role in improving healthcare accessibility, promoting preventive healthcare, and supporting public health initiatives through mobile medical services.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Consultation & Patient Care

  • Conduct outpatient consultations and medical examinations.

  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.

  • Prescribe medications and treatment plans as per clinical guidelines.

  • Provide evidence-based medical care to patients visiting the Mobile Medical Unit.

  • Ensure continuity of care through appropriate follow-up and referrals.

Community Health Services

  • Deliver healthcare services in rural, remote, and underserved communities.

  • Participate in community health camps and outreach programs.

  • Identify healthcare needs and disease trends within the assigned population.

  • Promote preventive healthcare practices and healthy lifestyle behaviors.

Health Screening & Preventive Care

  • Conduct routine health screenings including:

    • Blood Pressure Monitoring

    • Blood Sugar Screening

    • BMI Assessment

    • General Health Check-Ups

  • Identify high-risk individuals and facilitate early intervention.

  • Support vaccination and preventive health initiatives where applicable.

Emergency & Primary Care Management

  • Provide first-line management of medical emergencies encountered during outreach activities.

  • Stabilize patients and arrange referrals when higher-level care is required.

  • Manage common illnesses and minor medical procedures within scope of practice.

Referral & Follow-Up Management

  • Refer patients requiring specialized care to appropriate healthcare facilities.

  • Coordinate with hospitals and specialty departments for continuity of care.

  • Monitor referred cases and follow-up outcomes where applicable.

Health Education & Awareness

  • Conduct patient education and health awareness sessions on:

    • Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)

    • Maternal & Child Health

    • Nutrition

    • Hygiene & Sanitation

    • Preventive Healthcare

  • Encourage community participation in healthcare initiatives.

Medical Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate medical records and patient documentation.

  • Record consultations, diagnoses, treatments, and referrals.

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly activity reports.

  • Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory documentation standards.

Mobile Medical Unit Operations

  • Support smooth functioning of the Medical Mobile Unit.

  • Ensure availability of medicines, medical supplies, and equipment.

  • Monitor inventory and report replenishment requirements.

  • Maintain readiness of the MMU for outreach activities.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with:

    • Nursing Staff

    • Pharmacists

    • Outreach Teams

    • Local Health Authorities

    • Community Health Workers

  • Coordinate healthcare delivery activities within assigned regions.

  • Participate in public health and CSR initiatives.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to:

    • Medical Ethics

    • Clinical Protocols

    • Infection Control Guidelines

    • Organizational Policies

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and professional standards.

  • Support audits and quality improvement initiatives.


Required Qualifications

Education

  • MBBS (Mandatory)

Preferred Qualification

  • MD / DNB (Community Medicine, Family Medicine, General Medicine, Public Health or related specialties)


Experience

  • 1–5 years of post-internship clinical experience.

  • Experience in:

    • Primary Healthcare

    • Community Medicine

    • Rural Healthcare

    • Mobile Medical Units

    • Public Health Programs

    • Hospital or Clinical Practice preferred.
