About the Role

LabCorp is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join its Core Lab and Blood Bank team at Ascension St. Thomas West in Nashville, Tennessee. This position is ideal for both experienced Clinical Lab Professionals and recent MLS graduates looking for career growth and advanced laboratory training.

The role involves working in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical laboratory environment, delivering accurate, timely results that support patient care and LabCorp’s mission: “Improving Health, Improving Lives.”

Work Schedule:

  • 3rd Shift: 9:00 PM – 7:30 AM, 4 x 10s (Friday – Monday)

  • Alternative: 9:00 PM – 7:30 AM weekdays with rotating weekends


Key Responsibilities

  • Assess specimen acceptability according to established laboratory criteria.

  • Perform routine and advanced clinical laboratory procedures in compliance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments to ensure consistent performance.

  • Make technical decisions related to testing, problem-solving, and reagent evaluation.

  • Prepare and test new reagents or laboratory controls.

  • Report accurate, timely results to support quality patient care.

  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.

  • Maintain laboratory safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Replenish laboratory supplies and assist with specimen processing as needed.


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Chemical or Biological Sciences, or equivalent degree meeting CLIA/State requirements.

  • Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience required OR MLS degree (new graduates welcome).

  • Core lab experience preferred.

  • Blood bank experience highly preferred.

  • ASCP or AMT certification preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Proficiency with computers; familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) is a plus.

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Must pass standardized color vision testing.

  • Flexibility to work overtime or alternative shifts based on business needs.
