MEDICAL INFORMATION SPECIALIST

JOB OVERVIEW

The Medical Information Specialist provides accurate, evidence-based medical and scientific information to healthcare professionals, patients, and consumers. The role involves responding to medical inquiries, documenting safety information, supporting pharmacovigilance activities, ensuring regulatory compliance, and contributing to the safe and effective use of pharmaceutical and medical device products.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Medical Information Services

  • Respond to medical and scientific inquiries from healthcare professionals, patients, and consumers via phone, email, and web platforms.

  • Provide accurate, balanced, and compliant responses using approved product information, scientific literature, and internal resources.

  • Prepare customized medical responses when required.

Pharmacovigilance & Safety Reporting

  • Identify, document, and report:

    • Adverse Events (AEs)

    • Product Complaints (PCs)

    • Safety-related information

  • Ensure compliance with pharmacovigilance regulations and reporting timelines.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Accurately log all medical inquiries into internal systems.

  • Maintain complete and audit-ready documentation.

  • Follow company SOPs and regulatory requirements.

Quality Assurance

  • Perform quality checks on:

    • Medical inquiries

    • Safety reports

  • Ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance of responses.

Scientific Research

  • Review scientific literature and approved product information.

  • Interpret medical data to support evidence-based responses.

  • Stay updated with current clinical and scientific information.

Training & Mentorship

  • Provide informal training and mentorship to new team members.

  • Share knowledge and best practices within the team.

Continuous Improvement

  • Recommend improvements to medical information processes.

  • Support updates to internal procedures and workflows.

  • Participate in after-hours medical information coverage on a rotational basis, when required.


EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Degree in Life Sciences or Healthcare-related field

Examples include:

  • Pharmacy

  • Nursing

  • Medicine

  • Biotechnology

  • Microbiology

  • Biochemistry

  • Biomedical Sciences

  • Life Sciences


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • Degree in Life Sciences or Healthcare

Preferred

Experience in one or more of:

  • Medical Information

  • Pharmacovigilance

  • Drug Safety

  • Medical Communications

  • Clinical Research

  • Regulatory Affairs

  • Healthcare Customer Support
