Role Overview:
We are seeking experienced Medical Coders / Senior Medical Coders specializing in Inpatient DRG (MS-DRG/APR-DRG) coding. The role involves reviewing patient medical records, ensuring compliance with PHI and HIPAA, and accurately assigning ICD-10-CM and PCS codes. The candidate will manage daily coding tasks with high quality and timely communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Review inpatient medical records and assign accurate ICD-10-CM (primary and secondary diagnoses) and PCS codes.
Correctly sequence codes and assign POA (Present on Admission) indicators.
Apply coding guidelines, coding clinics, and query physicians for clarifications as needed.
Ensure proper documentation for medical necessity, DRGs, APGs, and APRs for claims processing.
Monitor account status regularly and follow up on held accounts with respective leaders.
Utilize coding software such as 3M, Optum, Computer Assisted Coding (CAC), abstracting tools, or Meditech (advantageous).
Adapt to evolving business processes while working independently.
Requirements:
Experience: 1–7+ years in Inpatient DRG medical coding.
Education: Any Graduate (Life Sciences preferred).
Certifications: AHIMA CCS or AAPC CIC (active and verifiable at joining).
Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including professional email correspondence.
Ability to work independently and adapt to process changes.
