Role Overview:
We are seeking experienced Medical Coders / Senior Medical Coders specializing in Inpatient DRG (MS-DRG/APR-DRG) coding. The role involves reviewing patient medical records, ensuring compliance with PHI and HIPAA, and accurately assigning ICD-10-CM and PCS codes. The candidate will manage daily coding tasks with high quality and timely communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review inpatient medical records and assign accurate ICD-10-CM (primary and secondary diagnoses) and PCS codes.

  • Correctly sequence codes and assign POA (Present on Admission) indicators.

  • Apply coding guidelines, coding clinics, and query physicians for clarifications as needed.

  • Ensure proper documentation for medical necessity, DRGs, APGs, and APRs for claims processing.

  • Monitor account status regularly and follow up on held accounts with respective leaders.

  • Utilize coding software such as 3M, Optum, Computer Assisted Coding (CAC), abstracting tools, or Meditech (advantageous).

  • Adapt to evolving business processes while working independently.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 1–7+ years in Inpatient DRG medical coding.

  • Education: Any Graduate (Life Sciences preferred).

  • Certifications: AHIMA CCS or AAPC CIC (active and verifiable at joining).

  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including professional email correspondence.

  • Ability to work independently and adapt to process changes.
