Role Overview:
We are seeking experienced Medical Coders / Senior Medical Coders specialized in Inpatient DRG (MS-DRG/APR-DRG) coding. The ideal candidate will review patient medical records, ensure compliance with PHI and HIPAA regulations, and accurately assign ICD-10-CM and PCS codes. This role requires timely task completion, high-quality coding, and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review inpatient medical records and assign accurate ICD-10-CM (primary and secondary diagnoses) and PCS procedure codes.

  • Apply POA (Present on Admission) indicators correctly.

  • Sequence and assign codes based on medical documentation.

  • Ensure adherence to coding guidelines, coding clinics, and query physicians for clarifications when necessary.

  • Apply knowledge of medical necessity, DRGs, APGs, and APRs in claims processing.

  • Monitor account status regularly and follow up on held accounts as required.

  • Utilize coding software such as 3M, Optum, Computer Assisted Coding (CAC), abstracting software, or Meditech (advantageous).

  • Adapt to evolving business processes and healthcare settings, demonstrating independent problem-solving and flexibility.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Experience: 1–7+ years of hands-on Inpatient DRG medical coding experience.

  • Education: Any Graduate or Postgraduate degree.

  • Certifications: AHIMA CCS or AAPC CIC certification (active and verifiable at joining).

  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills suitable for professional client correspondence.

  • Ability to work independently and adapt to business and process changes.
