Role Overview

The Medical Coding Analyst will be responsible for accurate coding of medical records using ICD-10-CM/PCS, ensuring compliance with CMS, AHA, HIPAA, and client-specific guidelines. This role involves reviewing clinical documentation, identifying coding discrepancies, and maintaining high-quality standards as per service-level expectations.


Key Responsibilities

Medical Coding & Compliance

  • Code medical records using ICD-10-CM and PCS with required accuracy as per SLAs.

  • Ensure adherence to HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality of patient data.

  • Apply coding conventions and official guidelines from AHA, CMS, and mandated code sets for both inpatient and outpatient encounters.

  • Report discharge disposition accurately according to CMS regulations.

Data Review & Quality Assurance

  • Identify inconsistencies, discrepancies, or inaccuracies in medical documentation and escalate appropriately.

  • Meet productivity and quality benchmarks as defined in KRAs and client SLAs.

  • Maintain minimum data standards for accuracy and timely completion of assigned tasks.

Operational & Organizational Compliance

  • Follow company policies, employment contract terms, and operational directives.

  • Adapt to changes in work locations, team assignments, or shifts based on business needs.

  • Participate in training and continuous learning initiatives to maintain coding proficiency.


Required Qualifications & Experience

Education

Graduate or Postgraduate in any of the following:

  • Life Sciences

  • Allied Medicine (BHMS, BAMS, BPT, BDS)

  • Pharmacy

  • Nursing

Certifications

One or more of the following coding certifications:

  • AAPC: CPC, CPC-H

  • AHIMA: CCS, CCS-P

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Acute Surgery or Emergency Department (ED) medical coding.

  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy, medical terminology, and diagnosis coding.

  • Excellent English communication and high analytical skills.

  • Strong willingness to learn and grow in medical coding operations.
