Role Summary
Optum is looking for a Medical Coding Analyst to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing medical records, applying coding guidelines (AMA, AHA, CMS), and ensuring accurate CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes are used in line with documentation and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Implement updates according to AMA, AHA, and CMS guidelines.
Review and analyze medical records to add or modify CPT codes for minor surgical procedures, vaccines, and laboratory procedures.
Extract and code various screening CPT and HCPCS codes from documentation.
Check NCCI edits and LCD & NCD coverage determinations, modifying codes and modifiers as necessary.
Contribute to team efforts to improve quality and productivity.
Organize and prioritize work to ensure timely and accurate coding, ensuring compliance with regulatory and client guidelines.
Maintain confidentiality and security of patient records and systems as per HIPAA policies.
Adhere to company policies and procedures and comply with any changes in employment terms or conditions.
Required Qualifications
Graduate degree.
Certified coder through AAPC or AHIMA (certifications such as CPC, CCS, CIC, COC accepted).
Must provide proof of certification with valid certification identification during the interview or offer process.
Sound knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.
Knowledge of security policies and procedures related to system security and data integrity.
Proficient in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
