Job Summary:

Optum is seeking a Medical Coding Analyst to join their global organization. The role focuses on coding accuracy, CPT/ICD/HCPCS code analysis, adherence to regulatory guidelines, and contributing to improved health outcomes. The analyst will work with a team guided by inclusion, integrity, and innovation.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Apply updates from AMA, AHA, and CMS guidelines.

  • Review and analyze medical records, apply/modify CPT codes for minor procedures, vaccines, labs.

  • Extract and code screening CPT and HCPCS codes from clinical documentation.

  • Evaluate NCCI edits, LCD & NCD guidelines to adjust ICD-10-CM, CPT codes, and modifiers.

  • Collaborate effectively in a team to improve quality and productivity.

  • Ensure timely coding and edit resolutions in compliance with regulations.

  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all records and systems.

  • Comply with HIPAA and company employment policies, including flexibility with shifts or work locations.


Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate (Bachelor’s degree)

  • Certified coder through AAPC or AHIMA
    (Accepted certifications: CPC, CCS, CIC, COC)

  • Must provide valid certification ID during interview/offer.

  • Solid understanding of Medical Terminology, Anatomy, Physiology.

  • Knowledge of system security policies and data protection.

  • Basic understanding of ED/EM levels, MDM, and modifier appending based on NCCI edits and CPT guidelines.

  • Proficient in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding standards.
