Medical Coding Analyst – Chennai

Job Summary:

Optum, a global leader in healthcare services, is hiring a Medical Coding Analyst in Chennai. This role involves coding and analyzing medical records using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes while adhering to AMA, AHA, and CMS guidelines. Candidates with AAPC or AHIMA certifications, including freshers and experienced professionals (7+ months), are encouraged to apply.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement updates from AMA, AHA, and CMS coding guidelines.

  • Review and analyze medical records to add or modify CPT codes for procedures, vaccines, and lab tests.

  • Extract and code screening CPT codes and HCPCS codes.

  • Check NCCI edits and LCD/NCD coverage determinations to update ICD-10-CM, CPT, and modifiers.

  • Organize and prioritize tasks to ensure coding compliance with client and regulatory standards.

  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure HIPAA compliance for all patient records.

  • Collaborate with team members to improve quality and productivity.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree (Life Sciences preferred but not mandatory).

  • Certified coder through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CCS, CIC, or COC).

  • Freshers or candidates with 7+ months of medical coding experience.

  • Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.

  • Understanding of data security policies and HIPAA guidelines.
