About the Role

Optum is a global healthcare organization leveraging technology to improve health outcomes for millions of patients. We are seeking a Medical Coder – Surgery to join our team in Noida, supporting accurate coding of professional services in hospital and multispecialty outpatient surgery settings.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience coding surgical procedures across specialties such as dermatology, gastroenterology, cardiology, and otolaryngology, and will demonstrate proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS Level II, and relevant modifiers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately review medical records and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes with appropriate modifiers.

  • Ensure compliance with AMA, AHA, CMS guidelines, and client-specific coding requirements.

  • Maintain a coding productivity rate of 4–6 charts per hour while adhering to quality standards.

  • Verify NCCI edits, LCD & NCD coverage determinations, and modify codes accordingly.

  • Prioritize and organize workflow to ensure timely completion of coding and edits.

  • Collaborate with team members to improve coding accuracy, efficiency, and productivity.

  • Maintain confidentiality and security of patient records in compliance with HIPAA policies.

  • Stay updated on all regulatory and guideline changes in medical coding.

  • Comply with company policies, procedures, and directives including work location, shifts, and alternative work arrangements as required.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Graduate in Life Sciences or equivalent.

  • Certification: Certified coder through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CCS, CIC, or COC accepted). Proof of certification required during interview or offer process.

  • Experience: Minimum of 6 months in multispecialty surgical coding and/or E&M coding.

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.

  • Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, modifiers, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
