As a Medical Coder, you will be responsible for accurately coding professional services, diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers from medical records in a hospital or clinic setting. This role involves analyzing medical records, assigning ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes with appropriate modifiers, and adhering to the coding guidelines and conventions of various regulatory bodies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement updates to AMA, AHA, and CMS guidelines.
  • Review and analyze medical records, adding or modifying CPT codes for minor surgical procedures, vaccines, and laboratory tests.
  • Extract and code various screening CPT codes and HCPCS codes from documentation.
  • Check NCCI edits and LCD & NCD coverage determinations, modifying codes accordingly.
  • Contribute to team efforts to improve quality and productivity.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks to ensure timely coding and resolution of edits.
  • Adhere to confidentiality policies and ensure HIPAA compliance.
  • Comply with company policies and directives as they evolve.

Required Qualifications:

  • Life Science or Allied Medicine Graduate.
  • Certified coder through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CCS, CIC, COC).
  • Valid coding certification with identification number provided during the interview or offer process.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.
  • Proficient in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines.
  • Basic understanding of ED/EM levels, MDM, and modifiers.
  • Knowledge of data security policies and procedures.
