Job Title: Medical Coder – MCC
Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

Job Summary:
Optum is hiring a Medical Coder – MCC to support Medicare and Medicaid Risk Adjustment programs. The selected candidate will validate and review medical records, ensuring accurate ICD-10-CM coding aligned with CMS HCC guidelines. If you have a background in HCC coding and are certified through AAPC or AHIMA, this is a great opportunity to contribute to healthcare improvement while advancing your coding career.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review medical records to confirm chronic condition documentation and validate HCC diagnoses.

  • Ensure ICD-10-CM coding is accurate, compliant with CMS Risk Adjustment guidelines, and meets established standards.

  • Interpret medical documentation to identify relevant diagnoses for Medicare reimbursement.

  • Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and clinical terminology to support accurate code assignment.

  • Evaluate documentation for accuracy, completeness, specificity, and code appropriateness.

  • Identify and resolve issues that could affect HCC capture and overall coding accuracy.

  • Consistently meet defined productivity and quality metrics as per client SLAs.

  • Support internal teams and supervisors with coding-related tasks as needed.

  • Adhere to company policies, including potential team changes, work shifts, and work locations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate in any discipline; medical, paramedical, or life sciences preferred.

  • AAPC/AHIMA certification is mandatory. Preferred: CRC; Other acceptable: CPC, CIC, COC, or AHIMA-CCS.

  • Minimum 1 year of medical coding experience required.

  • Prior HCC coding experience preferred; candidates from other coding backgrounds may be considered with adequate ICD-10-CM and CMS guideline proficiency.

  • Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
