Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Coder – Emergency Department (ED) to join a growing healthcare operations team in Mumbai. The role focuses on accurate and compliant coding of emergency department medical records, ensuring adherence to regulatory guidelines, payer policies, and documentation standards.
This position requires strong expertise in E/M coding, Medical Decision Making (MDM) application, and emergency care workflows, supporting high-quality revenue cycle outcomes and audit readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Review and analyze Emergency Department medical records to assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for diagnoses, procedures, and E/M services
Apply Medical Decision Making (MDM) table guidelines to determine appropriate E/M levels for ED encounters
Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with CMS, federal, state, and payer-specific regulations
Collaborate with ED physicians, clinical staff, and internal teams to resolve documentation gaps and coding discrepancies
Educate providers on documentation best practices related to MDM components, including diagnosis complexity, data review, and risk assessment
Perform ED-focused coding audits and provide actionable feedback to improve coding quality and compliance
Stay current with CMS updates, AMA CPT changes, ICD-10 revisions, and payer-specific ED coding policies
Required Qualifications
Active medical coding certification such as CPC, COC, CCS, or equivalent
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in Emergency Department (ED) medical coding
Strong expertise in E/M coding and MDM table application
In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
Solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and emergency care workflows
High level of attention to detail with a strong commitment to coding accuracy and compliance
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
