About the Position

The Medical Billing Specialist provides selective medical billing services to clients within the post-acute healthcare industry, including nursing homes, retirement communities, home health, and hospice facilities. The role involves managing third-party billing and addressing claim denials while delivering exceptional client service.


Key Responsibilities

  • Training & Collaboration:

    • Work with Medical Billing Senior Specialist and Manager to learn billing procedures and claims follow-up on various client systems.
    • Build collaborative relationships with team members to address client needs.
  • Billing Expertise:

    • Gain a comprehensive understanding of Medicare, Managed Care, and Medicaid billing regulations.
    • Review client-provided medical documentation to ensure clean claims submission.
    • Communicate with senior team members about additional information needed for claims.
    • Handle coinsurance billing for secondary or tertiary insurances.
  • Claims Management:

    • Stay informed on medical coding and billing trends, regulations, and laws to recommend policy changes.
    • Investigate and resolve medical claims following established procedures.
    • Consistently follow up on unpaid claims using monthly aging reports.
    • Analyze and address returned, denied, or incorrect claims.
  • Client Service & Communication:

    • Keep senior team members informed of troublesome accounts receivable balances.
    • Deliver high-quality, timely service that exceeds client expectations.
    • Perform research and provide solutions to projects as needed.
  • Other Duties:

    • Apply organizational skills to analyze and interpret client-specific information.
    • Take initiative to utilize resources, guidance, and policies effectively.
    • Execute additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent (GED); Associate degree and medical billing certification preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 1+ year of administrative experience, ideally in healthcare.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and ability to adapt to new technologies.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
    • Capability to research, analyze data, and resolve issues effectively.
    • Familiarity with medical terminology and billing practices.
