Job Title: Regional Medical Advisor (RMA) – EPD Medical Organization

Main Purpose of the Role

The Regional Medical Advisor (RMA) plays a critical role within the EPD Medical organization by providing scientific and medical support in a non-sales capacity. The RMA interacts significantly with Abbott’s customers in the field, engaging in medical/scientific activities to support the company’s products and therapeutic areas. This role includes involvement in clinical studies and medical projects, ensuring compliance with relevant processes and maintaining strong relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and other stakeholders in the medical field. The RMA will assist in driving scientific credibility for the company and help advance relationships with physicians, researchers, and academic centers.


Job Responsibilities

1. Scientific and Medical Support

  • Provide scientific and technical support, ensuring professional and credible relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), academic centers, and healthcare professionals.

  • Respond to requests for scientific and medical information and provide relevant updates to KOLs and other medical professionals.

  • Engage in scientific dialogue with physicians and opinion leaders, sharing up-to-date, unbiased, and accurate scientific information.

2. Clinical Studies and Medical Projects

  • Participate in the initiation, oversight, and follow-up of clinical studies and medical projects within the assigned therapeutic area, including post-marketing activities such as registry/database projects, epidemiological surveys, post-authorization studies (Phase IV), and investigator-initiated studies (IIS).

  • Ensure all activities comply with applicable laws, guidelines, SOPs, and best practices.

3. Medical Education and Therapy Shaping

  • Design and deliver high-quality scientific activities aimed at physicians and KOLs to drive therapy shaping in the assigned therapeutic area, collaborating with the Medical Affairs and Commercial teams.

  • Deliver unbiased and scientifically accurate presentations in individual and group settings, including meetings and clinical sessions.

4. Physician Engagement and Collaboration

  • Participate in the identification and selection of qualified physicians for collaborative efforts such as research collaborations or lectures for meetings, round tables, congresses, and symposia.

  • Ensure scientific and educational integrity in these collaborative engagements.

5. Compliance and Standards

  • Ensure all activities and interactions are conducted in compliance with local, global, and national laws, regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, company policies, and best practices.

  • Therapeutic Area Expertise: In-depth knowledge of the relevant therapeutic area(s) to effectively communicate scientific information and drive discussions with KOLs.

  • Management Skills: Ability to oversee and support clinical studies and medical projects, managing tasks and timelines effectively.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific concepts in an accessible manner.

  • Compliance & Process Improvement Skills: Knowledge of regulatory requirements and the ability to implement process improvements while ensuring compliance with SOPs and guidelines.

  • Problem/Conflict Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of resolving conflicts and addressing challenges in clinical and medical settings.

  • Priority Setting: Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects effectively, balancing clinical, educational, and relationship-building responsibilities.

  • Relationship Building: Skilled at establishing and maintaining strong professional relationships with KOLs, healthcare providers, research investigators, and internal stakeholders.
