About the Role
As a Medical Coding Analyst at Optum, you will play a critical role in reviewing and coding medical records to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to guidelines. Your contributions will directly impact patient care, reimbursement, and regulatory reporting while working in a collaborative, inclusive, and growth-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
Implement updates to AMA, AHA, and CMS guidelines in coding practices.
Review and analyze medical records; assign or modify CPT codes for minor surgical procedures, vaccines, and laboratory services.
Extract and code screening CPT and HCPCS codes from medical documentation.
Validate coding against NCCI edits, LCD & NCD coverage determinations; modify ICD-10-CM, CPT codes, and modifiers as required.
Organize and prioritize tasks to ensure timely coding and resolution of edits while meeting compliance standards.
Collaborate effectively within large teams, contributing to both quality and productivity improvements.
Maintain strict confidentiality of patient records in line with HIPAA policies and company procedures.
Adhere to company policies, employment contracts, and directives regarding work shifts, location changes, and business requirements.
Ensure compliance with system security protocols and safeguard sensitive health data.
Qualifications
Required
Graduate degree (any discipline).
Certified coder through AAPC or AHIMA (accepted certifications: CPC, CCS, CIC, or COC).
Must provide valid certification ID during interview/offer process.
