About the Role

As a Medical Coding Analyst at Optum, you will play a critical role in reviewing and coding medical records to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to guidelines. Your contributions will directly impact patient care, reimbursement, and regulatory reporting while working in a collaborative, inclusive, and growth-focused environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Implement updates to AMA, AHA, and CMS guidelines in coding practices.

  • Review and analyze medical records; assign or modify CPT codes for minor surgical procedures, vaccines, and laboratory services.

  • Extract and code screening CPT and HCPCS codes from medical documentation.

  • Validate coding against NCCI edits, LCD & NCD coverage determinations; modify ICD-10-CM, CPT codes, and modifiers as required.

  • Organize and prioritize tasks to ensure timely coding and resolution of edits while meeting compliance standards.

  • Collaborate effectively within large teams, contributing to both quality and productivity improvements.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient records in line with HIPAA policies and company procedures.

  • Adhere to company policies, employment contracts, and directives regarding work shifts, location changes, and business requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with system security protocols and safeguard sensitive health data.


Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate degree (any discipline).

  • Certified coder through AAPC or AHIMA (accepted certifications: CPC, CCS, CIC, or COC).

    • Must provide valid certification ID during interview/offer process.

  • Open to:

    • Freshers

    • Candidates with 7+ months of medical coding experience

  • Strong knowledge of:

    • Medical Terminology

    • Human Anatomy & Physiology

    • ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines

  • Awareness of system security policies and procedures.
