Position Summary

Responsible for supervising medical writing staff members and coordinating resources and activities to deliver high-quality, clear, and accurate medical writing deliverables that meet regulatory standards, client needs, and internal requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Development

  • Supervise and develop direct reports through goal-setting, performance reviews, training assessments, mentoring, and coaching

  • Manage salary administration, interviewing, selection, onboarding, terminations, professional development, performance appraisals, job descriptions, and employee counseling

  • Provide guidance on administrative policies, technical issues, priorities, and methodologies

Operational Management

  • Set department priorities, schedule resources, and implement company objectives

  • Manage team’s medical writing deliverables following company/client SOPs

  • Lead cross-functional writing teams, proactively resolving issues

Quality Assurance

  • Review medical writing outputs for completeness, accuracy, and quality

  • Review statistical analysis plans and table/figure/listings

  • Assume responsibility for departmental work product quality

Strategic Support

  • Support medical writing leadership in document strategy, business updates, and issue resolution

  • Assist in budgeting, timeline preparation, revenue tracking, invoicing, and forecasting

  • Participate in planning, writing, and assembling deliverables as needed

  • Develop and maintain departmental SOPs and templates

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Track and review department performance metrics

Business Development

  • Assist with proposal and costing preparation, bid defenses, and customer meetings


Salary Range

$95,000.00 – $175,700.00
Salary varies based on qualifications, skills, and proficiency.
