Position Summary

This role is responsible for the direct supervision and development of medical writing staff, ensuring delivery of high-quality, accurate, and compliant medical writing narratives. The manager coordinates resources, leads cross-functional teams, and supports business development efforts while upholding regulatory and client standards.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Development

  • Supervise and mentor medical writing staff, setting goals and conducting performance reviews

  • Identify training needs and develop tailored development plans

  • Provide coaching and guidance on policies, procedures, and technical challenges

  • Manage hiring, onboarding, salary administration, terminations, and employee counseling

Operational Management

  • Set priorities and schedule resources to meet company objectives

  • Oversee team medical writing deliverables according to SOPs

  • Form and lead cross-functional writing teams, addressing issues proactively

Quality Assurance

  • Review and approve medical writing work for accuracy, completeness, and quality

  • Review statistical analysis plans and data tables/figures/listings

  • Ensure adherence to regulatory and client standards

Strategic Support

  • Collaborate with medical writing leadership on document strategy and quarterly business updates

  • Assist with budgeting, timelines, revenue tracking, invoicing, and forecasting

  • Participate in writing and assembling medical writing deliverables as needed

  • Develop and maintain departmental SOPs and templates

  • Build and sustain relationships with internal and external customers

  • Track and analyze department metrics

Business Development

  • Support proposal and costing preparation

  • Assist with bid defenses and customer meetings


Salary Range

$95,000.00 – $175,700.00
Salary is commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications.
