Position Summary
The Manager, Medical Writing (Narratives) is responsible for supervising a team of medical writers. This includes overseeing narrative deliverables, ensuring quality and compliance, leading cross-functional teams, and supporting business and operational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Staff Development
Supervise and develop medical writing staff
Conduct performance reviews and create development plans
Mentor, coach, and monitor training needs
Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance management
Operational & Resource Management
Set priorities and schedule department resources
Align team goals with organizational objectives
Identify and implement process improvements
Medical Writing Oversight
Manage and oversee writing deliverables per SOPs
Review narrative work products for accuracy, clarity, and quality
Ensure timely and compliant document delivery
Review statistical analysis plans and related tables/figures/listings
Participate in hands-on writing tasks when needed
Cross-functional & Client Collaboration
Lead and maintain productive cross-functional teams
Build and maintain strong internal and external client relationships
Proactively address issues and drive solutions
Strategic & Business Support
Assist in document development strategies and planning
Help prepare budgets, timelines, forecasts, and revenue tracking
Support business development activities (proposals, bid defenses, client meetings)
Compliance & Process Improvement
Maintain departmental SOPs and templates
Monitor and review department metrics
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company policies
Salary & Benefits
Salary Range: $95,000 – $175,700 (based on qualifications and experience)
