The Director of Pharmacovigilance will play a pivotal role in leading process improvement initiatives and quality outputs, focusing on streamlining processes, adding value to the business, and meeting client needs. This position involves managing Managers (Operational or Project), creating and maintaining client relationships, and ensuring successful delivery of project timelines and quality data while maintaining profitability.

Client Interfacing:

  • Embrace and exemplify ICON's values of People, Clients, and Performance.
  • Provide leadership and consultancy on pharmacovigilance services, including system gap analysis, process development, system implementation, inspection readiness, and department development.
  • Offer strategic and tactical input on client project planning and execution.
  • Act as a member of Steering/Executive Committees, handling relationship governance, meetings, and escalation of issues.
  • Lead standalone safety projects, ensuring project governance, timelines, and budgets are met.
  • Manage strategic portfolio program delivery and oversight.
  • Provide senior management with updates on project or staffing risks and develop solutions.
  • Maintain client relationships to secure repeat business through successful project delivery and profitability.
  • Serve as Local/Qualified Person for Pharmacovigilance (including deputy level).

Business Development & Department Leadership:

  • Contribute to proposals for project bids as needed.
  • Participate in setting and achieving hiring targets.
  • Forecast new hires based on department backlog, utilization, and turnover.
  • Develop and monitor department profitability, goals, objectives, and strategies.
  • Lead strategic global operational or project functions within pharmacovigilance.
  • Represent ICON at industry meetings and corporate strategy initiatives.
  • Monitor and report on metrics, performance, and staffing to senior management.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance project and global pharmacovigilance efficiency.

People Leadership:

  • Collaborate with corporate recruiting to ensure effective staff hiring.
  • Lead and manage the pharmacovigilance operational or project teams.
  • Ensure adequate resources are available to meet corporate and project goals.
  • Oversee staff training to ensure compliance with ICON systems and processes.
  • Responsible for career development, feedback, and retention of staff.
  • Mentor and coach staff, providing performance feedback.
