Position Overview:

Abbott is seeking a Regional Medical Affairs Manager to represent the affiliate’s medical and scientific voice for assigned diabetes products across Greater China (CN, TW, HK). Reporting to the Regional Medical Director, this position will be responsible for providing expert medical and scientific advice, developing relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), supporting clinical research, and contributing to marketing strategies related to diabetes care and glucose monitoring technologies. The role will involve significant interaction with healthcare professionals, academic centers, and internal teams to drive scientific and clinical excellence.


Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Scientific Expertise & Knowledge Development:

    • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of assigned diabetes care products, glucose monitoring systems, and relevant therapeutic areas.
    • Stay updated on the latest literature, attend key congresses and seminars, and contribute to the scientific accuracy of internal medical and scientific materials (e.g., medical information documents, clinical reviews).
  • Scientific Support & Advice:

    • Provide expert medical and scientific advice to internal teams, customers, and stakeholders regarding glucose monitoring products.
    • Review and develop medical/scientific materials for regulatory compliance and internal use.
  • Stakeholder & KOL Engagement:

    • Build and maintain professional relationships with key opinion leaders, academic centers, and healthcare professionals.
    • Coordinate advisory boards, round-table discussions, and other scientific forums to enhance collaboration and information exchange.
  • Training & Education:

    • Deliver scientific presentations, educational programs, and training to healthcare professionals and Abbott teams.
    • Develop and update training materials to support internal teams, including sales forces, on the scientific aspects of diabetes care and products.
  • Clinical Research & Support:

    • Support local Investigator Initiated Studies (IIS) and collaborate with KOLs on clinical research projects.
    • Provide support for accounts requiring continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems for research purposes.
  • Marketing & Promotional Support:

    • Collaborate with the marketing team to provide medical/scientific input for product strategies, promotional materials, and key commercial initiatives.
    • Ensure all promotional materials comply with internal policies and local regulations.
  • Competitive Intelligence & Compliance:

    • Monitor the competitive landscape for product strategies, studies, and trends, providing insights to the internal teams.
    • Ensure compliance with national laws, regulations, Abbott’s policies, and accepted best practices in medical affairs.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage resources, prioritize tasks, and delegate responsibilities to ensure timely project completion.
  • Ensure the team operates within budget and meets project goals.
  • Investigate and resolve issues, applying strong problem-solving skills.

Position Accountability & Scope:

  • Therapeutic Area Expertise: Stay current on scientific data and provide expert support for diabetes care products and glucose monitoring technologies.
  • Internal Collaboration: Provide scientific guidance and training to sales, marketing, and internal teams.
  • KOL & External Engagement: Foster strong relationships with KOLs, academic centers, and healthcare professionals to ensure access to up-to-date scientific information.

Requirements:

  • Educational Qualifications:
    • Doctoral degree in health sciences (MD preferred), PharmD, or PhD.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 6 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or medical device industry, with a solid understanding of drug development and clinical research.
    • Experience in diabetes care and glucose monitoring is a significant advantage.
  • Language Skills:
    • Proficient in Mandarin at a business communication level.
    • Strong English proficiency (reading and writing) is also required.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
    • High customer orientation with strong relationship-building, networking, and diplomatic skills.
    • Strong commitment to scientific integrity and compliance with industry regulations.
  • Travel:
    • Willingness to travel 30-40% of the time across the Greater China region.
