In this key role, you’ll be part of Global EHS Risk Central Services, responsible for implementing robust and innovative EHS Risk Management Programs that will play a pivotal role in supporting Amgen’s growing network, including existing products and new therapeutic areas and molecules from our extensive pipeline.

Aligned with Amgen READ (Reliability, Efficiency, Agility, and Differentiation), you will:

  • Improve reliability by standardizing methods, formats, and training.
  • Drive efficiencies by eliminating duplicate EHS Risk activities/documents across multiple sites.
  • Increase agility by leveraging Artificial Intelligence and other new IS platforms in EHS Risk Management.
  • Ensure that effective Risk Management resource use becomes a competitive advantage.

A key focus will be managing Serious Injury or Fatality (SIF) risks, enabling better risk analysis and strategic planning, and utilizing Risk Management resources to prevent fatalities, serious injuries, lost time, property damage, or business interruptions.

This role is critical in ensuring all hazards are identified, assessed, and mitigated across Operations, Research & Development, and the Global Commercial Organization to ensure the safety of Amgen’s teams and the success of our mission.


Functions (Duties/Accountabilities):

  • Lead the development of an effective Risk Management Program.
  • Drive improvements in Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) usage.
  • Support EHS integration in Acquisition & Divestiture processes.
  • Coach and mentor colleagues on best practices for Risk Management tools.
  • Lead complex or high-hazard Risk Assessments using process hazard evaluation techniques like HAZOP, What-If, FMEA, etc.
  • Provide input on key project documents such as process flow diagrams, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and design drawings.
  • Collaborate with Engineering on safety code compliance and process improvements.
  • Participate in Corporate Audits to assess program compliance and regulatory readiness.
  • Support the continuous improvement of Amgen’s core EHS programs and processes to ensure effectiveness and compliance.

Liaisons:

  • Reports to EHS Director, Risk.
  • Participates in EHS Global Network Teams.
  • Frequently interacts with EHS Leadership and functional leaders across the organization.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree & 4 years of Pharma or Biopharma experience OR
  • Master’s degree & 8 years of Pharma or Biopharma experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree & 10 years of Pharma or Biopharma experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or other science-related fields.
  • 10+ years of experience in Risk Management, specifically in developing and implementing EHS Risk Management programs within the Pharma/Biopharma industry.
  • In-depth understanding of Chemical and Biological commercial (GMP and non-GMP) and laboratory operations.
  • Familiarity with European and US regulations relevant to Pharma/Biopharma operations.
  • Experience in Qualitative and Quantitative Risk Assessments, including HAZOP, What-If, PrHA, PHA, FMEA, LOPA.
  • Experience managing risks related to high potency compounds, flammable, and explosive atmospheres.
  • Strong leadership, communication, program development, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in Risk Management platforms, Microsoft Office, Smartsheet, and other software systems.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time.
