Job Title: EHS Sustainability Manager

Job Purpose:

The EHS & Sustainability Manager is responsible for creating and implementing Syngene’s global environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs, alongside its sustainability strategies. The role ensures compliance, supports competitive positioning, and drives the organization’s sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives. The manager works with leadership across operational sites to implement programs that improve sustainability and manage regulatory compliance in EHS areas.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Sustainability Strategy Development:
    Develop and implement corporate sustainability strategies and goals, creating a robust suite of ESG programs to improve performance across the organization.

  • ESG Advisory:
    Advise divisional leadership teams on ESG matters, ensuring all business areas align with sustainability goals.

  • Training and Development:
    Plan and deliver training programs for managers and employees on sustainability practices, ensuring continuous tracking of improvements.

  • Water/Waste Reduction:
    Establish and oversee water and waste reduction programs at Syngene’s operational sites.

  • Environmental Performance Review:
    Develop a mechanism for ongoing environmental performance review and establish an active dashboard to track progress.

  • Strengthening Environmental Protection:
    Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on strengthening environmental protection measures and driving Syngene’s ESG program.

  • GHG Emissions and Footprint Management:
    Map and track Syngene’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (Scope-1, 2, and 3), water consumption, and waste footprint.

  • Compliance with Sustainability Standards:
    Ensure Syngene’s sustainability efforts align with frameworks like GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) and SASB (Sustainability Accounting Standards Board).

  • Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi):
    Effectively manage Syngene’s SBTi commitments, ensuring alignment with sustainability targets and goals.

  • Green Supply Chain Management:
    Advise and track the development of green supply chain strategies, particularly focusing on Scope-3 emissions and green chemistry.

  • ESG Report Governance:
    Manage the corporate oversight of ESG reports, including governance related to BRSR (Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report) and ESG disclosures.

  • Sustainability Reporting & Disclosures:
    Lead sustainability reporting efforts, including managing third-party ESG audits and disclosures as required by stakeholders.


Educational Qualifications:

  • Degree/Master's degree in Science/Engineering (Chemical/Environmental preferred).
  • Knowledge of sustainability management aligned with ISO 14000 series standards.
  • Understanding of occupational laws (e.g., OSHA) and safety practices.
  • Familiarity with ESG frameworks, carbon footprints, SBTi, and sustainability reporting platforms (e.g., CDP, Ecovadis, DJSI, etc.).

Technical/Functional Skills:

  • EHS & Sustainability Management: Expertise in environmental, health, safety, and sustainability strategies.
  • Compliance Management: Deep understanding of regulatory compliance (both external and internal).
  • Data Analytics: Strong analytical skills with a focus on environmental data and sustainability performance metrics.
  • Leadership & Networking Skills: Ability to lead sustainability initiatives and engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • IT Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office and relevant software tools for reporting and data management.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in sustainability management, preferably within industries like pharma, biopharma (R&D, API, formulations), chemicals, fertilizers, petroleum, or a consulting firm specializing in sustainability.
