The Global Medical Affairs function within Rare Disease plays a critical role in shaping and executing medical strategies that align with the broader Rare Disease strategy. Our highly skilled team of approximately 55 professionals globally is responsible for external engagement, scientific communication, evidence generation, and medical excellence.


The Position:

We are seeking a visionary leader for the role of Corporate Vice President (CVP) of Global Medical Affairs, Rare Disease. Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President (EVP) for Rare Disease, this position is accountable for driving the strategic direction of medical affairs within the Rare Disease portfolio. The CVP will lead the Global Medical Affairs team, champion medical excellence, and foster strong partnerships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals, and external stakeholders.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and execute global medical affairs strategies for rare disease therapies, aligning with overall Rare Disease goals, ensuring scientific excellence, and driving medical innovation.
  • Organizational Leadership: Lead, inspire, and develop the Global Medical Affairs team. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, driving high performance and establishing standards for medical activities related to rare disease therapies.
  • External Engagement & Advocacy: Cultivate strong relationships with KOLs, International Professional Associations (IPAs), and medical experts to enhance scientific communication and influence strategy. Represent Novo Nordisk at scientific forums, advisory boards, and conferences focused on rare diseases.
  • Advancing Clinical Development: Oversee initiatives related to Real World Evidence (RWE), Medical Education, and Investigator Sponsored Studies (ISS). Ensure that medical affairs strategies support clinical activities and the development of rare blood and endocrine therapeutics.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams, including Product Development, Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, and Safety, ensuring seamless integration of medical affairs strategies.
  • Leadership Contribution: Provide strategic insights and expertise as a member of the Rare Disease Leadership Team, contributing to the overall direction of the organization’s rare disease initiatives.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished leader with significant experience in medical affairs within a global pharmaceutical or biotech company. You should have at least 10 years of experience, ideally with a focus on specialty care and rare diseases.

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Proven experience leading global medical affairs functions in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • A track record of successful involvement in global launches and positively influencing clinical practices and treatment methodologies in rare diseases or related therapeutic areas.
  • Extensive experience engaging with KOLs and external medical experts, establishing the company’s presence at key scientific events and advisory boards.
  • An advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., MD, PhD, PharmD) is required.
  • A collaborative and empowering leadership style, with the ability to build relationships across functions and geographies.
  • The ability to inspire and drive results in a dynamic and innovative environment, with a passion for improving patient outcomes.
