Salary Range: $227,600 - $422,600 (depending on location, experience, and qualifications)
Bonus: Discretionary annual bonus based on individual and company performance

The Opportunity

The Immunology Clinical Operations Therapeutic Area Leader will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the strategy for Roche's Immunology portfolio. This senior leadership position is responsible for overseeing the execution and successful delivery of clinical trials within the Immunology space, while managing a matrixed organization of approximately 150 employees.

The position involves collaboration across various functions within PDG and Roche, including clinical development, product strategy, and external partnerships, ensuring optimal delivery of Immunology programs and alignment with Roche's One Pharma Strategy.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Immunology Portfolio Strategy and Leadership

    • Lead the development and refinement of the clinical operations strategy for Immunology.

    • Align strategies with the Clinical Development Plan (CDP) and Roche’s One Pharma Strategy.

    • Oversee the execution of the Immunology portfolio and ensure optimal delivery.

  2. Portfolio Oversight and Risk Management

    • Proactively manage the Immunology clinical trials portfolio, identifying and mitigating risks to ensure seamless operations.

    • Maintain oversight of ongoing studies, anticipating challenges, and driving resolutions.

  3. Stakeholder Collaboration and Decision-Making

    • Foster cross-functional collaboration with internal stakeholders, including PDG, APO, and COEs.

    • Act as a leader in translating strategic decisions into actionable operational plans for the Immunology portfolio.

  4. Innovation and Operational Efficiency

    • Drive improvements in clinical trial execution by leveraging analytical tools and innovative processes to optimize quality, speed, and efficiency.

    • Enhance patient- and investigator-centric approaches, improve budget management, and focus on boosting technical success (PTS).

  5. External Engagement and Representation

    • Represent PDG in Immunology-related discussions, ensuring Roche’s voice is heard internally and externally.

    • Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including health authorities, patient advocacy groups, Therapeutic Area Experts (TAEs), and vendors.

  6. People Leadership and Team Development

    • Lead a diverse, matrixed team of ~150 employees, including 10-12 direct reports.

    • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) in the workplace and drive a high-performance culture.

    • Focus on talent development, coaching, and building a robust leadership pipeline aligned with organizational goals.

  7. Leadership within the Portfolio Delivery Team

    • Act as a core member of the Portfolio Delivery Leadership Team, helping to align priorities and making decisions that enhance patient care and clinical trial efficiency.

  8. Administrative Oversight

    • Conduct regular performance assessments, provide feedback and coaching to team members, and manage employment-related tasks to ensure effective team operations.


Who You Are

  • Experience:

    • 15+ years in pharmaceutical clinical operations with at least 10 years in global clinical operations strategy and leadership.

    • Proven experience in managing large, matrixed organizations and cross-functional teams.

    • Strong background in Immunology and global clinical development, including experience in immune-mediated diseases and trends in the global Immunology landscape.

  • Skills and Abilities:

    • Expertise in clinical operations strategy, portfolio management, risk mitigation, and innovative solutions to enhance trial delivery.

    • Proven ability to influence and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory authorities, patient advocacy groups, and health professionals.

    • Strong data-driven decision-making and analytics skills to support operational efficiencies.

    • Fluency in English; additional language skills are a plus.

    • Flexibility for frequent national or international travel.
