Position Overview

The Oncology-Hematology Clinical Operations Therapeutic Area Leader will be responsible for the strategy, oversight, and execution of clinical operations for Roche/Genentech's Oncology and Hematology portfolio. This leadership role will drive collaboration across internal and external teams, ensuring the successful delivery of clinical trials for a wide array of cancer and hematology indications.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and Evolve Oncology-Hematology Portfolio Strategy

    • Lead the overall clinical operations strategy for the Oncology-Hematology portfolio, adapting to scientific and regulatory changes.

    • Ensure alignment with the Clinical Development Plan (CDP) and One Pharma Strategy to optimize clinical trial delivery.

  2. Oversight and Risk Mitigation for Portfolio Delivery

    • Oversee asset and study delivery, continuously monitoring portfolio progress.

    • Identify risks and implement proactive strategies to mitigate delays and ensure smooth trial execution.

  3. Strategic Stakeholder Alignment and Collaboration

    • Build strong alignment among key stakeholders, including PDG, APO, COEs, early and late-stage development teams, and enterprise leaders.

    • Act as a key operational leader to influence decision-making and improve portfolio delivery.

  4. Operational Leadership and Innovation

    • Use analytics and portfolio optimization expertise to enhance trial efficiency, quality, and cost management.

    • Implement innovative, patient- and site-centric approaches to improve clinical trial outcomes and technical success (PTS).

  5. Representation and Influence Across Roche Enterprise

    • Serve as the operational voice for the Oncology-Hematology portfolio within the organization.

    • Build and maintain relationships with senior leaders across Roche and external partners, such as health authorities and patient advocacy groups.

  6. Leadership and Team Development

    • Lead a matrixed team of approximately 150 employees, including 10-12 direct reports.

    • Foster a high-performance, collaborative, and inclusive culture aligned with Roche's leadership principles, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I).

  7. Collective Leadership with an Enterprise Mindset

    • Represent Oncology-Hematology as part of the Portfolio Delivery Leadership Team.

    • Demonstrate collective leadership, advancing Roche’s broader organizational goals and patient-focused objectives.

  8. People Management and Administrative Oversight

    • Manage team performance, offering regular feedback and development opportunities.

    • Handle administrative tasks related to team operations, including performance reviews and HR-related matters.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience:

    • 15+ years in pharmaceutical clinical operations, with at least 10 years in global clinical operations strategy leadership.

    • Experience in managing large, matrixed organizations and leading teams across diverse functions.

  • Expertise in Oncology/Hematology:

    • In-depth knowledge of Oncology and Hematology diseases, including trends and challenges in global clinical trial development.

  • Clinical Development Knowledge:

    • Extensive experience in global clinical development, particularly in international settings.

  • Leadership Skills:

    • Proven success in developing and executing strategies, using data-driven decision-making to meet ambitious goals.

    • Track record of expanding access to underserved populations and enhancing clinical trial outcomes.

  • Fluency in English:

    • Additional language skills are an asset.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range (California location): $227,600 - $422,600 (based on experience and qualifications).

  • Bonus: Discretionary annual bonus based on individual and company performance.
