Job Overview:
Amgen is seeking a Biostatistical Programming Senior Manager to lead a dynamic team within the Centre for Observational Research (CfOR). This individual will collaborate across global time zones with epidemiology and programming teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality real-world evidence (RWE) insights from extensive healthcare databases. This role is vital for advancing Amgen’s research capabilities using real-world data assets such as EHR and claims datasets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop, and mentor programming staff within CfOR.

  • Collaborate with epidemiologists and RWE leads to generate insights from RWD.

  • Oversee and ensure adherence to SOPs and programming standards.

  • Design, review, and approve programming and dataset specifications.

  • Write and validate SAS programs for dataset creation and presentation.

  • Participate in project planning, issue resolution, and quality assurance activities.

  • Engage in audits and contribute to internal policies and SOP development.

  • Support recruitment and staff performance management.

  • Contribute to cross-functional and global team collaborations.

  • Represent the programming function in internal and external forums.

Basic Qualifications:
One of the following combinations in a relevant field (Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Life Sciences, Economics):

  • Doctorate degree + 2 years' experience

  • Master’s degree + 8–10 years’ experience

  • Bachelor’s degree + 10–14 years’ experience

  • Diploma + 14–18 years’ experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in statistical programming or systems/application programming in life sciences or clinical settings.

  • Experience in RWE statistical programming and managing teams or projects.

  • Familiarity with real-world data such as MarketScan, Optum, Medicare, Flatiron.

  • Knowledge of OMOP CDM.

  • Proficiency in SAS and SQL (required); R and Python (preferred).

  • Understanding of epidemiological concepts like incidence and prevalence.

Key Competencies:

  • Strong leadership, innovation, and problem-solving skills.

  • Advanced SAS and SQL programming expertise; R/Python a plus.

  • Effective verbal and written communication across global teams.

  • Agile project management abilities.

  • Deep knowledge of RWD and statistical methodologies.

  • Meticulous attention to detail and documentation.
