Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of activities involving coding of medical records for indexing medical information, used for statistics, planning, and accurate hospital reimbursement.

  • Code inpatient and/or outpatient records and identify diagnoses and procedures daily, according to the unit’s set schedule.

  • Accurately assign ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes in line with Coding Departmental guidelines, maintaining at least 95% coding accuracy.

  • Identify and abstract medical records consistently and accurately.

  • Demonstrate time management by meeting deadlines and minimizing non-essential interruptions.

  • Meet departmental productivity standards for coding and entering inpatient and/or outpatient records.

  • Participate actively in coding meetings and educational conferences to maintain coding skills and accuracy.

  • Exhibit willingness and flexibility to work additional hours or change work schedules as required.

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the role's impact on departmental and hospital operations.

  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with departmental and hospital staff.

  • Attend conference calls and provide relevant information related to coding.

  • Comply with employment contracts, company policies, procedures, and directives, including work location transfers, shift changes, and other flexible arrangements as necessary.


Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree required.

  • Certified fresher or experienced individual in medical coding or other professional experience.

  • If experienced, up to 1 year (G23 level).

  • Must be certified coder through AAPC or AHIMA.

  • Accepted certifications: CPC, CCS, CIC, COC (any one).

  • Proof of current certification with a valid certification identification number must be provided during the interview or offer process.
