Job Title: Senior Organic Chemist

Location: Multiple Locations
Company: Aragen

Role Overview:

This role involves the design and synthesis of molecules as per client specifications. You will be responsible for executing chemical reactions independently or through managing a team of chemists, ensuring that project requirements and timelines are met while maintaining safety, quality, and data integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Synthesis of Target Molecules:

    • Set up and execute reactions to synthesize target molecules or compounds.
    • Understand and deliver on project specifications and synthetic route designs as specified by the client.
    • Review literature and reaction protocols as necessary.
    • Effectively delegate tasks and monitor team performance to ensure the successful execution of projects.
  • Safety and Risk Management:

    • Ensure that the team follows Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and mitigate any potential safety risks with the help of the supervisor.
    • Use reagents and equipment such as glassware, stirrers, vacuum pumps, etc., to execute reactions while maintaining the required conditions (temperature, pressure).
    • Enforce good laboratory practices and safety protocols in the lab.
    • Maintain and manage laboratory equipment, ensuring adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitoring, Reporting, and Data Management:

    • Monitor the progress of reactions and perform workup and purification techniques to produce intermediary and final compounds.
    • Analyze and interpret analytical data, ensuring the final compound meets required quality standards.
    • Meet productivity targets, including the number of reactions, steps, compounds, quality, and timelines.
    • Prepare regular reports, including weekly, monthly, and final project reports as required.
    • Maintain detailed records of reactions and findings in lab notebooks, ensuring data integrity and intellectual property (IP) confidentiality.
  • Team Leadership and Development:

    • Lead a team of chemists, guiding them to meet productivity and quality targets.
    • Foster high morale and skill development within the team through one-on-one discussions, training sessions, and project-based learning.
    • Review team performance regularly and support professional development opportunities.
    • Provide support to the project manager in estimating project timelines and resources, assessing risks, and identifying potential challenges.

Required Qualifications:

  • Educational Background:

    • MSc in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry with 1–5 years of relevant experience.
    • Ph.D. or Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry with 1–3 years of relevant experience (preferred).
  • Experience:

    • Proven experience in organic synthesis and reaction design.
    • Familiarity with analytical techniques and the ability to interpret results.
    • Experience in managing teams and ensuring successful project execution.

Key Skills:

  • Chemistry Expertise: Strong knowledge in organic chemistry, particularly in synthetic chemistry and purification techniques.
  • Safety Protocols: Expertise in laboratory safety practices, including handling hazardous materials and chemicals.
  • IP & Confidentiality: Ability to ensure IP confidentiality and manage data integrity across projects.
  • Resource Management: Ability to optimize resources, conducting cost-benefit analysis and ensuring efficient use of lab materials and equipment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Research Publications: Candidates with research publications in reputable scientific journals are highly preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective reporting and team collaboration.
  • Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing client specifications and project timelines.
