Job Summary

Novo Nordisk is hiring an Associate Patent Attorney/Patent Attorney in Bangalore, India. This role is an excellent opportunity for IP professionals to manage patent prosecution, conduct detailed IP assessments, and provide strategic support for in-licensing and acquisition activities. Ideal for candidates with expertise in biotech, life sciences, or biopharma patents, this position involves global IP compliance and coordination with international teams to safeguard Novo Nordisk's innovations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage prosecution for Novo Nordisk’s patent applications in India and Rest of the World (RoW).

  • Conduct novelty, invalidity, and freedom-to-operate (FTO) patent searches independently.

  • Provide IP support for in-licensing, acquisitions, and life-cycle management (LCM) strategies.

  • Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications ensuring optimal protection.

  • Defend company patent rights in administrative and court proceedings.

  • Collaborate with global IP teams to ensure compliance with international IP laws and regulations.

  • Support local and global in-house projects as required.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Post-graduate/Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or related fields.

  • 6-12 years’ experience in intellectual property, patent prosecution, and searches in biotech/life-sciences domains.

  • Proficient with patent/scientific databases (STN, PatBase/Derwent Innovation, SciFinder).

  • Strong technical knowledge in the Pharma/Biopharma domain.

  • Comprehensive understanding of IP laws in India, US, EU, and JP.

  • Skilled in patentability, freedom-to-operate (FTO), and validity assessments.

  • Certified Patent Agent/Attorney in India (preferred).

  • Experience in in-house IP teams or Tier 1 law firms is an advantage.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
