Job Overview

A leading global information services organization is seeking an Associate Metadata Librarian to support academic and government-focused content platforms. This role is ideal for professionals with expertise in MARC21 cataloguing, library metadata standards, and bibliographic record management.

The selected candidate will be responsible for creating and maintaining high-quality metadata records for books, journals, and multimedia resources. This position plays a critical role in ensuring discoverability, classification accuracy, and structured metadata integrity across library and academic databases.

This opportunity is well suited for candidates with a background in Library Science, cataloguing operations, and academic publishing workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform copy cataloguing and create MARC21 bibliographic records for books, journals, and video content

  • Apply cataloguing standards including MARC rules, Library of Congress authority files, and Dewey Decimal Classification

  • Ensure accurate subject classification and metadata structuring for enhanced content discoverability

  • Import and manage records from multiple data sources using automated ingestion workflows

  • Execute validation and quality assurance processes using internal documentation and metadata validation tools

  • Maintain compliance with established cataloguing standards and editorial guidelines

  • Assist in resolving customer queries related to bibliographic records

  • Develop a strong understanding of product offerings and end-user needs within academic and research environments

Required Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLIS preferred) or related discipline.

Experience:
1–3 years of professional experience in library cataloguing, metadata management, or bibliographic record maintenance. Fresh graduates with strong MARC21 knowledge may also be considered.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong working knowledge of MARC21 cataloguing format

  • Familiarity with Library of Congress authority files and Dewey Decimal System

  • Understanding of bibliographic metadata standards and classification systems

  • Experience with automated content ingestion workflows preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in academic publishing or scholarly content environments

  • Exposure to digital library systems and metadata validation tools
