About the Role:

As an Associate Medical Coder, you will contribute to accurate hospital reimbursement and healthcare planning by coding medical records. This includes reviewing medical documentation and assigning the appropriate ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes for inpatient and/or outpatient services. The role is essential in maintaining coding accuracy and productivity while supporting the broader goals of Optum and UnitedHealth Group to improve global health outcomes.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Code medical records to index medical information for statistical, planning, and reimbursement purposes.

  • Accurately assign ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes in line with departmental guidelines (minimum 95% accuracy).

  • Abstract and identify records consistently.

  • Meet productivity standards for coding and data entry.

  • Participate in coding team meetings and training sessions to maintain skills.

  • Show flexibility in working hours and willingness to take on extra responsibilities.

  • Attend conference calls to share coding-related updates.

  • Understand and comply with company policies, work arrangements, and directives.


Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate in any stream.

  • Either a certified fresher in medical coding or an experienced professional in medical coding or related fields.

  • Certification required from AAPC or AHIMA.

    • Accepted certifications: CPC, CCS, CIC, COC

  • Candidates must have current valid certification and be able to provide certification ID during the interview/offer process.
