Job Title: Associate Medical Coder
Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India

Job Summary:
Optum is hiring an Associate Medical Coder to support accurate documentation and coding of medical records using ICD-10 and CPT-4 standards. This role is ideal for certified freshers or professionals with up to 1 year of coding experience. You’ll play a key role in ensuring compliance, proper indexing, and effective reimbursement through precise coding practices.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assign ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes accurately per departmental guidelines, maintaining ≥95% coding accuracy.

  • Code inpatient/outpatient records daily as per the defined unit schedule.

  • Abstract and identify diagnoses and procedures with consistency and accuracy.

  • Meet productivity targets related to record coding and entry.

  • Participate in internal coding meetings and educational conferences.

  • Demonstrate understanding of the role’s impact on hospital operations and reimbursement.

  • Exhibit time management by minimizing non-essential interruptions and meeting deadlines.

  • Maintain strong communication with internal teams and establish collaborative relationships.

  • Be flexible with work hours and ready to extend or shift schedules as needed.

  • Participate in conference calls to provide updates and insights on coding-related matters.

  • Adhere to all company policies, contractual terms, and directives, including potential changes in work location, team structure, and schedules.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate in any discipline.

  • AAPC or AHIMA-certified coder (CPC, CCS, CIC, or COC – any one required).

  • Open to freshers or those with up to 1 year of experience in medical coding (G23 level).

  • Understanding of coding practices and healthcare terminology is essential.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
