Job Title: Associate Medical Coder
Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Job Summary:
Optum is hiring an Associate Medical Coder to support accurate documentation and coding of medical records using ICD-10 and CPT-4 standards. This role is ideal for certified freshers or professionals with up to 1 year of coding experience. You’ll play a key role in ensuring compliance, proper indexing, and effective reimbursement through precise coding practices.
Primary Responsibilities:
Assign ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes accurately per departmental guidelines, maintaining ≥95% coding accuracy.
Code inpatient/outpatient records daily as per the defined unit schedule.
Abstract and identify diagnoses and procedures with consistency and accuracy.
Meet productivity targets related to record coding and entry.
Participate in internal coding meetings and educational conferences.
Demonstrate understanding of the role’s impact on hospital operations and reimbursement.
Exhibit time management by minimizing non-essential interruptions and meeting deadlines.
Maintain strong communication with internal teams and establish collaborative relationships.
Be flexible with work hours and ready to extend or shift schedules as needed.
Participate in conference calls to provide updates and insights on coding-related matters.
Adhere to all company policies, contractual terms, and directives, including potential changes in work location, team structure, and schedules.
Required Qualifications:
Graduate in any discipline.
AAPC or AHIMA-certified coder (CPC, CCS, CIC, or COC – any one required).
Open to freshers or those with up to 1 year of experience in medical coding (G23 level).
Understanding of coding practices and healthcare terminology is essential.
Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
