Job Title: Associate Medical Coder
Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Work Mode: Full-time | Work from Office

Job Summary:
Optum is seeking an Associate Medical Coder to handle accurate coding of medical records using ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes. Ideal for certified freshers or professionals with up to 1 year of coding experience, this role ensures compliance with departmental guidelines while contributing to effective hospital reimbursement and healthcare planning.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Code inpatient and/or outpatient medical records daily as per coding unit schedule.

  • Assign ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes with at least 95% accuracy in code selection and sequencing.

  • Identify and abstract relevant information from medical records accurately.

  • Meet departmental productivity standards for coding and data entry.

  • Demonstrate time management, reducing unnecessary interruptions and meeting deadlines.

  • Participate in coding meetings and education sessions to maintain coding knowledge and accuracy.

  • Maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with hospital and departmental staff.

  • Be flexible with work hours and demonstrate a strong understanding of how your role impacts overall operations.

  • Attend conference calls as necessary for coding-related discussions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate in any discipline.

  • Certified fresher or candidate with up to 1 year of medical coding experience (G23 level).

  • Must hold a current coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA.

  • Acceptable certifications: CPC, CCS, CIC, or COC.

  • Valid certification ID must be provided during interview or offer process.
