Job Summary:

The Associate Medical Coder is responsible for coding medical records used for indexing clinical data, government reporting, statistical analysis, and ensuring accurate hospital reimbursement. This role involves coding of inpatient and/or outpatient records and working with hospital departments to maintain coding accuracy and compliance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately assign ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes to inpatient and/or outpatient records following departmental guidelines

  • Maintain a minimum of 95% accuracy in code selection and sequencing

  • Abstract and review medical records for diagnoses and procedures

  • Consistently meet productivity standards for coding and entry

  • Demonstrate effective time management and minimize unnecessary interruptions

  • Participate in coding team meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices

  • Be flexible with working hours based on department needs

  • Collaborate with team members and hospital staff to maintain a cooperative working environment

  • Attend coding-related conference calls when required


Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate in any discipline

  • 0–1 year of experience in medical coding (G23 level)

  • Certified fresher or experienced coder

  • Must possess valid coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA

    • Accepted certifications: CPC, CCS, CIC, COC

  • Proof of valid certification (with certification ID number) is required during the interview/offer stage
