Job Description:

The Associate Medical Coder is responsible for coding medical records accurately to support hospital indexing, statistical reporting, and reimbursement processes. The coder assigns ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes for inpatient and/or outpatient records, ensuring compliance with departmental guidelines and maintaining at least 95% accuracy.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Code inpatient and/or outpatient medical records daily as per schedule

  • Assign ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes accurately, maintaining minimum 95% accuracy in code choice and sequencing

  • Abstract and identify records consistently and accurately

  • Meet departmental productivity standards for coding and data entry

  • Demonstrate strong time management skills, striving to meet deadlines and minimize interruptions

  • Participate in coding meetings and educational conferences to maintain skills and accuracy

  • Show flexibility and willingness to work additional or changed hours as needed

  • Understand the impact of the role on the department and hospital operations

  • Foster cooperative working relationships with departmental and hospital staff

  • Attend conference calls related to coding as required


Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree required

  • Certified fresher or experienced in medical coding or relevant experience

  • 0 to 1 year of experience in medical coding (G23 experience level)

  • Must hold a current medical coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA

  • Accepted certifications include CPC, CCS, CIC, and COC

  • Candidates must provide proof of valid certification with certification ID during interview/offering
