Job Purpose

The Associate Medical Coder is responsible for accurately coding inpatient and/or outpatient medical records using ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes. This role ensures compliance with departmental guidelines, supports hospital reimbursement, and contributes to statistical reporting for hospital, regional, and government planning.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform coding of medical records to support data indexing, statistics, and reimbursement processes.

  • Assign ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes with at least 95% accuracy in code selection and sequencing.

  • Identify and abstract records consistently and accurately.

  • Code inpatient and/or outpatient records daily according to unit schedules.

  • Meet departmental productivity standards for coding and data entry.

  • Demonstrate time management by meeting deadlines and minimizing non-essential interruptions.

  • Participate in coding meetings, education sessions, and conferences to maintain skills and accuracy.

  • Provide information during coding-related conference calls as required.

  • Exhibit flexibility by working additional or adjusted hours when necessary.

  • Build cooperative working relationships with departmental and hospital staff.

  • Understand the impact of the role on departmental and hospital operations.


Qualifications

  • Graduate in any discipline.

  • Certified in medical coding (mandatory).

    • Accepted certifications: CPC, CCS, CIC, or COC (through AAPC or AHIMA).

    • Must provide valid certification ID during interview/offer process.

  • Open to:

    • Certified Freshers

    • Candidates with 0–1 year of medical coding experience (G23 level)

    • Candidates with relevant experience in medical coding or other related roles
