Role Overview:
The Associate II, Scientific Education – Phaco Development Specialist is responsible for driving the adoption of Phaco procedures as the primary method for cataract surgery. This role focuses on training and converting surgeons from Extra Capsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE) and Small Incision Cataract Surgery (SICS) to Phaco, ensuring high-quality surgical outcomes and optimal utilization of Alcon products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and select target trainees and hospitals to maximize Phaco adoption and surgical success rates.

  • Provide on-site Operating Room (OR) and wet lab instruction to existing and new cataract surgeons, ensuring effective conversion from ECCE/SICS to Phaco techniques.

  • Demonstrate Alcon products, including Infiniti with Ozil, Laureate, Single-Piece AcrySof IOL, Natural, IQ IOL, Viscoelastic solutions, and surgical instruments.

  • Coach and mentor affiliated personnel and trainees to achieve technical proficiency and optimal patient outcomes.

  • Support Alcon Phaco Development training events, professional congresses, symposiums, and patient education programs.

  • Maintain detailed documentation of trainee assessment, pre-course preparation, surgical observations, and post-course Phaco cases.

  • Handle adverse events and product complaints at a local level, coordinating with Local Vigilance Representatives.

  • Adhere strictly to corporate compliance policies, reporting standards, and operational procedures.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or technical qualification in science or medically related specialty.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in sales, marketing, clinical application, or assisting surgeons in the OR.

  • Proficiency in English with strong communication skills.

  • Willingness to travel domestically 50–70% of the time based on field schedules.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Specialty training in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Technology, or related field.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in clinical applications, marketing, and sales with an international or recognized medical device company.

  • Hands-on experience as a Surgical/Medical Technologist or Biomedical Engineer.

  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and improve surgical competency and procedural adoption.
