Role Overview

The Associate Director, Oncology Outcomes Research is an individual contributor role and a key member of the Asset Team.
This role supports the development and leads the execution of global and US health outcomes strategies, including Real-World Evidence (RWE) generation.

The position requires expertise in HEOR/epidemiology, strong scientific acumen, business judgment, and excellent communication skills.

The Associate Director reports to the Asset Lead, Oncology Outcomes Research.


Key Responsibilities

1. Strategy & Execution

  • Execute asset strategy, including real-world research and HEOR activities to define and communicate asset value.

  • Support strategy development and lead execution of Global and US health outcomes plans.

  • Provide scientific input and influence across GMA, OBU, and Outcomes Research & Development (ORD).

  • Support internal governance and review meetings to ensure scientific rigor in AZ-sponsored research.


2. Research Leadership

  • Lead or contribute to RWE, epidemiological studies, HEOR analyses, and pharmacoepidemiologic models.

  • Present research findings at scientific congresses.

  • Participate in developing and publishing manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Translate research insights into tools and resources for field medical and commercial teams.


3. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with internal teams (GMA, OBU, ORD, market access, analytics).

  • Communicate strategic insights effectively to diverse stakeholders.

  • Maintain deep understanding of disease area, competitors, reimbursement landscape, and market dynamics.


4. Vendor & Budget Management

  • Manage external vendors to ensure timely and high-quality project execution.

  • Oversee project budgets and deliverables.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate degree (PhD, MS, MPH strongly preferred) in:

    • Health Economics

    • Epidemiology

    • Outcomes Research

    • Related scientific fields

  • Minimum 3 years of experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Strong knowledge and application of:

    • Epidemiology

    • HEOR methodologies

    • Real-world data sources

    • Pharmacoepidemiologic research

  • Understanding of:

    • Global and US healthcare systems

    • Payer requirements

    • Reimbursement and access dynamics

  • Scientific understanding of oncology and relevant data sources.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and judgment skills.

  • Ability to travel 10–15%.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced scientific degree (PhD strongly preferred).

  • Strong integrative and conceptual thinking.

  • Ability to leverage internal/external resources for strategic insight.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong collaborator and supportive team member.

  • Prior oncology experience (highly desirable).


Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary Range: $149,000–$223,000 (dependent on experience, skills, and market factors).

  • Additional Compensation:
