Role: Associate Director – Dermatology Medical Science Liaison (MSL)

Purpose of the Role

Scientific and Clinical Experts (SEs/CEs) require accurate, unbiased, and advanced scientific information to support patient care, clinical research, and medical education.
The MSL serves as a field-based medical expert, providing scientific exchange, gathering medical insights, and supporting strategic initiatives in dermatology.

MSLs shape healthcare advancement by connecting scientific leaders with industry innovation and ensuring the ethical, accurate dissemination of medical knowledge.


Primary Responsibilities

1. Scientific Knowledge

  • Continuously build deep expertise in dermatology and related therapeutic areas.

  • Respond to scientific and medical information requests with accurate, unbiased data.

  • Establish a reputation as a trusted scientific resource for customers.


2. Customer Engagement

  • Spend the majority of time in customer-facing activities.

  • Utilize emotional intelligence, strategic communication, and customer understanding to build strong relationships with SEs/CEs.

  • Connect external experts with other Lilly internal teams or resources as needed.

  • Facilitate collaborative research discussions and external opportunities.


3. Territory Ownership

  • Strategically analyze and manage the assigned geography.

  • Develop and execute a territory plan focused on core MSL activities.

  • Use territory analytics for customer identification and visit prioritization.

  • Partner compliantly with other Lilly field teams to ensure a coordinated customer experience.


4. Strategic Vision & Leadership

  • Identify, synthesize, and communicate actionable customer/clinical insights to internal teams.

  • Demonstrate strong judgment, escalate issues when appropriate.

  • Build internal networks and collaborate across cross-functional teams.

  • Adapt to evolving business needs, embrace innovation, and maintain strategic agility.

  • Exhibit Team Lilly behaviors and contribute effectively to team goals.

  • Maintain full compliance with all internal and external regulations, processes, and laws.


Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education

One of the following is required:

Option 1 (Preferred):

  • Advanced degree in Health Sciences (PharmD, MD, PhD in a medically related field)
    PLUS

  • 2–3 years of relevant clinical or therapeutic area experience

Option 2:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences (BSN, RPh, PA, NP)
    PLUS

  • 5+ years of clinical, research, or industry experience in dermatology or relevant therapeutic area

Legal Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

  • Lilly will not sponsor visas or provide work authorization support for this role.

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.


Additional Preferences

  • Strong preference for Dermatology therapeutic area experience.

  • Preferably residing within the Kansas City metro area.

  • Territory covers Kansas (KS), Missouri (MO), Iowa (IA), and Nebraska (NE).

  • Proximity to a major travel hub (airport/train station) is preferred.

  • Ability to travel up to 80%, including 4–6 weekends per year.

  • Self-directed with strong prioritization and project-management ability.

  • Strategic and critical thinking skills for evaluating clinical/scientific data.

  • High emotional intelligence, strong networking, and relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to manage complex customer needs and deliver high-quality scientific service.

  • Experience working in field-based roles is highly valued.

  • Familiarity with healthcare systems, academic centers, and medical research processes.


Compensation & Benefits

Anticipated Salary Range:
$151,500 – $244,200 (based on education, experience, skills, and geography)
