Job Overview
A leading global pharmaceutical company is seeking an experienced Associate Director – Government Affairs, Sustainability & Patient Advocacy to lead integrated public policy, CSR, and patient engagement strategies in India. The role focuses on strengthening government relationships, shaping healthcare policy, advancing patient-centric initiatives, and driving sustainable access to innovative healthcare solutions.

This is a senior leadership role requiring strong expertise in government relations, public health policy, CSR governance, and multi-stakeholder engagement across India’s healthcare ecosystem.


Experience Required
16 to 20 years of relevant experience in Government Affairs, Public Policy, Patient Advocacy, Public Health, Corporate Affairs, or Healthcare Sustainability roles.


Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree is mandatory

  • Preferred: MBA / PGDBM / Master’s in Public Health (MPH) / Public Policy / Health Administration / Life Sciences or related disciplines


Key Responsibilities

Government Affairs & Public Policy

  • Develop and execute comprehensive government affairs strategies aligned with business and public health priorities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with central and state government ministries including Health, Pharmaceuticals, Finance, and Commerce

  • Represent the organization in policy forums, industry associations, and regulatory working groups

  • Monitor regulatory and legislative changes and provide strategic guidance to internal stakeholders

  • Influence healthcare policy development through structured engagement with policymakers and industry bodies

Patient Advocacy & Engagement

  • Integrate patient perspectives into organizational strategy and healthcare decision-making

  • Build and strengthen partnerships with patient organizations and advocacy groups

  • Support capacity building initiatives for patient groups including health literacy and disease awareness programs

  • Facilitate patient participation in advisory boards, consultations, and scientific forums

State Government & Health System Engagement

  • Develop strategic partnerships with state health departments and public health systems

  • Support state-level initiatives including vaccination programs, disease elimination efforts, and healthcare access improvements

  • Identify barriers in patient care pathways and collaborate with cross-functional teams to address them

CSR & Sustainability Leadership

  • Design and implement CSR strategies aligned with national priorities and ESG frameworks

  • Ensure compliance with India’s CSR regulations (Companies Act, Schedule VII)

  • Partner with NGOs and public health organizations to execute high-impact social and healthcare initiatives

  • Establish KPIs and impact measurement frameworks for CSR and sustainability programs

  • Integrate CSR efforts with government affairs and patient advocacy strategies for unified impact


Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong expertise in Government Affairs, Public Policy, and Healthcare Advocacy

  • Deep understanding of India’s healthcare regulatory and policy ecosystem

  • Proven experience in stakeholder management across government, NGOs, and healthcare institutions

  • Strong strategic thinking and policy analysis capabilities

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills

  • Experience in CSR, ESG, or sustainability program management

  • Ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder environments

  • Strong ethical judgment and professional integrity

  • Data-driven decision-making and policy interpretation skills

  • Ability to influence senior government and industry stakeholders


Preferred Skills

  • Exposure to global pharmaceutical or healthcare organizations

  • Experience working with public health programs or national health missions

  • Background in market access, medical affairs, or health policy strategy

  • Experience in coalition building with patient groups and scientific organizations

  • Strong leadership experience in cross-functional or matrix organizations
