Provide leadership and strategic direction to the database administration team, ensuring the design and performance of advanced database solutions to meet evolving business and clinical data requirements. Drive innovation in data modeling, metadata management, and operational effectiveness.
Plan and lead the design of advanced data models and metadata management strategies
Provide application-level data modeling and enterprise-wide data standards
Oversee database creation, sizing, archiving, performance tuning, integrity, and security
Strong knowledge of SQL, SAS, Python or R
Promote adoption of AI/ML technologies and real-time data ingestion in Data Management ecosystems
Experience implementing workflow digitization and innovative data review processes
Implement global metadata repositories and management tools
Identify metadata sources and define common data definitions
Ensure alignment with business requirements through user interviews and validation
Ensure databases meet operational standards (reliability, performance, query execution time)
Participate in testing and documentation across all environments (development, test, production)
Roll out innovative roles to improve operations
Manage and develop a matrix team of database professionals
Conduct bi-monthly team check-ins covering project updates, training, performance, and risks
Promote employee engagement and foster a transparent communication culture
Act as a coach, mentor, and escalation point for team members
Act as liaison with Business Development for feasibility inputs and bid defense meetings
Contribute to client RFIs/RFPs and present in high-stakes discussions
Interface cross-functionally at internal meetings and strategic planning sessions
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Life Sciences, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Familiarity with EDC systems, data query tools, and CDISC standards
Experience managing large datasets and analyzing data quality indicators
Strong business acumen with proven budgeting and financial management
Effective team leadership, motivational, and influencing capabilities
Strong project management and organizational skills
Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrix environment
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
Able to interact confidently at senior levels, including customers and executives
Comfortable discussing sensitive topics diplomatically and assertively
Strong customer focus and experience with alliance and account management
Ability to influence, negotiate, and drive results in a matrixed environment
Innovative, self-driven, and adaptable with strong problem-solving ability
Demonstrates ownership and accountability with minimal supervision
