Position Summary:
Lilly is seeking a highly skilled Associate Director – Competitive Analytics to drive strategic insights across our Research & Development (R&D) portfolio. This role is crucial for informing portfolio strategies by analyzing competitor data, industry trends, and therapeutic opportunities. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, LRL, and Business Unit partners, to deliver actionable insights that accelerate innovation and corporate initiatives such as Next Gen R&D and 3NME.

Key Responsibilities:

Competitive Analysis & Insights:

  • Develop and implement integrated analytical frameworks connecting multiple data sources to enhance data quality and enable robust industry trend analyses.

  • Generate actionable competitive intelligence by evaluating competitors’ strategies, portfolio investments, capabilities, and productivity.

  • Collaborate with portfolio strategy teams and stakeholders to support ongoing competitive analytics projects.

  • Present clear, concise, and impactful insights to scientists, project teams, and leadership using data storytelling and visualization.

Data Management & Process Optimization:

  • Partner with Decision Sciences and Analytics teams to monitor portfolio progress, ensuring alignment with sustainability and efficiency goals.

  • Own creation, integration, and maintenance of competitive intelligence systems and databases, ensuring high data integrity.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for information-sharing platforms (e.g., Minerva, Penumbra, VITAL) and drive adoption of best practices.

  • Lead functional improvement initiatives, including process updates and analytical framework enhancements, to meet evolving business needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, health-related field, scientific, or engineering discipline (Advanced degree preferred).

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical R&D, business analytics, or competitive intelligence.

  • Expertise with analytics and visualization tools such as AWS, SQL, VBA, Python, R, or Power BI.

  • In-depth understanding of pharmaceutical industry trends, R&D processes, and scientific concepts.

  • Authorized to work in the United States; Lilly does not sponsor employment visas for this role.

Preferred Skills:

  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences, Business, Finance, or IT/Computer Science.

  • Strong analytical, creative problem-solving, and data synthesis skills.

  • Experience with database design, data integration, text mining, and advanced data manipulation.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts for varied audiences.

  • Collaborative mindset with proven experience in cross-functional teamwork.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Anticipated Salary: $132,000 – $193,600 (Full-time equivalent)

  • Eligibility for company bonus based on performance.
