The Pain and Neuronal Health Group at Lilly’s San Diego Biotechnology Center is dedicated to understanding the interplay between metabolic processes and neuronal function, aiming to develop innovative therapeutic strategies for neurological and pain-related disorders.


Position Overview

Lilly is seeking a motivated Associate Biologist to join the Pain and Neuronal Health team. This role is ideal for freshers with strong academic training in molecular biology, neurophysiology, or neuroscience. The candidate will support cross-functional research exploring molecular and cellular mechanisms linking metabolism and neuronal function, contributing to the development of next-generation therapeutic strategies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, perform, and analyze in vitro experiments to investigate neuronal function and metabolism.

  • Apply molecular and cellular biology techniques, including:

    • Western blotting

    • PCR

    • Cell culture (iPSC and primary)

    • Immunohistochemistry

  • Conduct microscopy and imaging analysis to support research findings.

  • Develop and implement innovative approaches to enhance understanding of disease biology, target engagement, and pharmacodynamics.

  • Present experimental data and insights to research teams and leadership.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple Lilly research sites.


Basic Qualifications (Fresher-Friendly)

  • M.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Neurophysiology, or a related scientific discipline (freshers encouraged).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.

  • Academic research experience demonstrated through projects or publications.


Preferred Experience (Optional for Freshers)

  • Exposure to human donor nervous system tissue (CNS/spinal cord, dorsal root ganglion) using slice preparations or organotypic cultures.

  • Hands-on experience with in vitro electrophysiology techniques (whole-cell current/voltage clamp, MEA recordings, slice electrophysiology).

  • Previous experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology research environments.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $71,250 – $187,000
