Overview:
The Assistant Technician is responsible for setting up and operating haemodialysis machines to provide life-saving dialysis treatments for patients with kidney failure. This role involves preparing the machine and equipment, explaining procedures to patients, and monitoring the dialysis process to ensure smooth and effective treatment. Attention to detail, patient communication, and adherence to safety protocols are essential in providing high-quality care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dialysis Machine Setup and Operation
    Set up and operate the haemodialysis machine to deliver dialysis treatment for kidney failure patients. Prime the extracorporeal circuits with normal saline and ensure all connections are secure before treatment begins.

  • Equipment Preparation and Labeling
    Attach dialyzer and tubing to the machine, labeling the dialyser and blood lines with patient details (excluding single-use items). Prepare dialysis solutions and mix bicarbonate according to established formulas.

  • Patient Communication and Comfort
    Explain the dialysis procedure and the operation of the haemodialysis machine to patients to ease their concerns before starting the treatment.

  • Machine Monitoring
    Monitor the haemodialysis machine throughout the treatment to ensure proper functioning, troubleshooting any issues promptly to prevent complications.

  • Record Keeping
    Maintain all relevant log books, forms, and registers accurately to document patient treatment details and machine usage.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Relevant certification or diploma in dialysis technology or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare or dialysis setting is an advantage.
  • Skills: Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and good communication abilities to ensure patient comfort and safety.
