Overview:
The Assistant Dialysis Technician plays a crucial role in supporting patients with kidney failure by assisting in dialysis treatments. Working under the supervision of healthcare professionals, this role involves setting up, operating, and maintaining dialysis machines while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and well-being throughout the process. A keen attention to detail, technical proficiency, and a compassionate approach to patient care are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dialysis Machine Operation and Maintenance
    Prepare and operate hemodialysis machines according to safety protocols. Maintain equipment functionality by troubleshooting and performing regular cleaning and disinfection.

  • Patient Preparation and Monitoring
    Prepare patients for dialysis, explaining procedures, and addressing concerns. Take and record vital signs before, during, and after treatments, monitoring for any complications.

  • Technical Support and Record-Keeping
    Maintain accurate treatment records, including machine settings and medication administration. Assist with patient care plans and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.

  • Patient Care and Comfort
    Provide compassionate support to patients, ensuring their comfort and well-being during treatment. Educate patients on dialysis processes and encourage adherence to dietary restrictions.

  • Safety and Compliance
    Follow infection control protocols and emergency procedures during dialysis. Participate in quality assurance programs and ongoing training for new equipment and processes.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED. Dialysis technician training program completion is preferred.
  • Certification: CCHT (Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician) or equivalent certification is preferred or required by state law.
  • Experience: Experience in a dialysis or healthcare setting is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Skills: Strong technical and troubleshooting skills, excellent communication abilities, detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
