Role Summary:

The Area Scientific Director is a key position within Abbott’s Medical and Scientific Affairs team, responsible for developing and executing scientific strategies across Abbott’s Core Lab portfolio. This individual will work closely with various teams, including Medical Affairs, Marketing, Commercial, and Technical Operations, to enhance Abbott's position as a leader in the medical and scientific community. The role focuses on providing subject matter expertise, educating stakeholders, and contributing to the scientific advancement of Abbott’s products in the market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Scientific Leadership: Develop and maintain current medical and scientific standards, focusing on laboratory medicine trends, clinical applications of products, and assay design.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and maintain relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), regulatory bodies, and internal partners.
  • Education & Consultation: Educate and train internal employees on Abbott’s assays, provide technical consultations, and contribute to the development of medical and scientific guidelines for product usage.
  • Project Management: Lead and execute medical and scientific projects, education programs, and product launches. Run Familiarity Studies (FAM) and present at scientific conferences.
  • Customer Insight: Collect insights from healthcare providers and customers to inform Abbott’s product development and improvements.
  • Scientific Communication: Communicate complex scientific data clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Provide troubleshooting and problem-solving support to customers.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Education: PhD or equivalent experience in a scientific discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years in the technical or scientific industry, including 5 years in product development/scientific management, and at least 2 years in a clinical healthcare environment.
  • Specialized Knowledge:
    • Expert understanding of assay design and laboratory techniques.
    • In-depth knowledge of the IVD industry, diagnostic products, and competitive landscape.
    • Experience interfacing with healthcare providers and understanding the dynamics between laboratory and health systems.

  • Base pay for this position ranges from $143,300 to $286,700, depending on location and experience.
