In India, there are no specific HTA agencies at the national level, but several organizations and bodies are involved in conducting health technology assessments and related processes. Here are some key organizations and processes related to health technology assessment in India:
1. Department of Health Research (DHR): DHR is under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It promotes research in various areas, including health technology assessment.
2. Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR): ICMR is the apex body for the formulation, coordination, and promotion of biomedical research in India. It may conduct health technology assessments as part of its research activities.
3. Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO): CDSCO is responsible for the regulation of pharmaceuticals and medical devices in India, including their safety, efficacy, and quality.
4. National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC): NHSRC provides technical support to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for policy formulation in health and social sector planning.
5. State Health Technology Assessment Units: Some states in India have established their own Health Technology Assessment Units or similar bodies to assess the value of health technologies for local decision-making.
While India does not have a centralized national HTA agency, various academic institutions and research organizations in the country also undertake health technology assessments and research.
