ICMR – Indian Council of Medical Research 

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is India’s apex body for the formulation, coordination, and promotion of biomedical research. Operating under the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, ICMR is one of the oldest and largest medical research organizations in the world. Its mission is to advance public health through scientific innovation, evidence-based research, and translational programs that directly improve the health outcomes of millions.

ICMR oversees 28 national research institutes and centers across India, each specializing in specific areas such as infectious diseases, epidemiology, nutrition, reproductive health, genomics, viral research, oncology, and environmental health. The organization plays a central role in developing national health strategies, disease surveillance systems, vaccine research, laboratory networks, and frontline public health responses.

As a leader in biomedical research, ICMR collaborates extensively with global institutions, academic bodies, public health organizations, and industry partners to drive scientific excellence. Its initiatives support policy development, clinical research, public health communication, digital health innovations, and health data systems across the country.
